Our instructor, Melanie, has a wealth of experience as a teacher and SENDCo, so is able to adapt to the varying needs of the children she supports.

MEET MELANIE

Hi, I'm Melanie Appleyard. As an experienced Inclusion Expert and Emotional Wellbeing Coach, I am passionate about supporting individuals, both children and adults, on their journey towards improved emotional health. With a strong background in teaching and extensive training in mindfulness, meditation, and holistic therapies, I bring a unique blend of expertise to my work.

 

My background includes over 17 years of experience as a teacher, supporting the social and emotional well-being of children. This has been developed by undertaking postgraduate courses in Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Special Educational Needs Coordination.

I’ve written and implemented schemes of work to develop well-being in the curriculum and delivered training and support to school staff to deliver this content. My role has involved identifying and planning support to meet the neurodiverse, physical, social, emotional and mental health needs of children in schools. My extensive training in these areas have provided me with a wealth of knowledge and understanding, which I have also been able to transfer into training courses and workshops aimed at adult participants, ensuring that inclusivity is at the forefront of my work.

 

​My journey with cancer gave me a deeper, more personal insight into the importance of emotional well-being, with my recovery aided by self-care techniques. These included mindfulness and meditation, Reiki, good nutrition, a positive mindset, a supportive family and my super dog, Daisy, who ensured I kept moving.

​Quieting my mind through mindfulness and meditation has not only helped me to manage stress and anxiety, it has helped me to feel more connected and grounded. In today’s busy society, there has never been more of a need for us to learn to quieten the mind. I strongly believe that it is never too late, or too early to learn these skills, which will help to prevent dis-ease, which in turn can cause ill health. I therefore made it my mission to build my expertise in these areas, so I can pass on these important skills to as many people as possible

It is my absolute pleasure to help you, your staff and the children in your care learn skills and techniques to help you develop positive mental health and emotional well-being, and achieve your full potential.
